Nosferatu

We are all monsters.  We hunt, we kill, we destroy.  We drink the life out of all the things around us.  In your shame, you find a dozen ways to make yourself feel better about this truth.  You say you don't destroy, but create.  You claim you don't kill, but rule.  You claim it's not really you who looses control, its the Beast.  We don't pretend so.  We know that we are all just monsters.  Crawling across the land, feasting on death, creating something else entirely.  We are Brother Worms.

Even Kindred have monsters, and since ancient times, those monsters have been the Nosferatu. The Nosferatu embody the fear of the Kindred, and they wield that fear like a weapon. There are even those who whisper that the Nosferau are not even Kindred proper, but something else entirely that rises from the graves of Christian and pagan alike, their minds and bodies twisted. They are Worms, crawling their way through the darkness of the night. Some Nosferatu are overtly deformed with pealing skin, missing features, lifeless eyes. Others seem utterly normal, even beautiful, but are broken in a deeper, unseen, way.

The Nosferatu eschew identity in the traditional sense. They treat each Embrace as if it was a new birth, a new creation. Sires do not discuss the past with their childer, and whatever it was that the Nosferatu was before the Embrace has little importance after. It is not uncommon for a Nosferatu to choose a new name, to create an entirely new sense of themselves, upon joining the undead. Chances are, they were not missed upon their Embrace, having been poor our otherwise outcast. And in general, Nosferatu do not set out to make a name for themselves in death. While the solitary Nosferatu can be found wandering the countryside, their real strength is in numbers, lurking deep under cities, uncountable and unknown.

London is a city that has been rebuilt several times, and so it should not be a surprise that the city has developed a thriving undercity, a connection of tunnels, crypts, and dark canals that exist under London proper.  It is said that there are some Worms under London that have not stepped foot in the "proper" city in well over a century.  Kindred who are not one of the Brother Worms avoid the entrances to these dark places.

There are, however, other Nosferatu who have made themselves known above the dark recesses of the undercity.  They are priests in the Lancea et Sanctum, they are Keepers who advise the old Families.  There are those who have seen an opening in the strata of Kindred Society with the shaming of the Mekhet, and they have poised themselves to take advantage of it.  The more traditional of the Brother Worms might see this as selling out, or of trying to pretend to something that is impossible to attain, but those Nosferatu who have had the taste of something better are quite willing to do whatever they must to crawl higher, even if they must do so over the corpses of the Shadows.
